Orlando Rodriguez
Orlando Rodriguez, born in Caracas, Venezuela, made his first steps in theatre in 1995. After graduating from acting school he obtained his BA degree at the University of Arts (Dance) in Caracas in 2002. Exposed to and nourished by divers body practices and techniques of performance and dance, he was able to work with most recognized dancers and choreographers in Venezuela. In 2004, he benefited from the Venezuela National Scholarship Program to study at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen (DE) where he obtained his MA degree as Dance Performer (Solo-Tanz) in 2007.
Rodriguez is currently based in Berlin and has been involved as a performer, choreographer and choreographic assistant in compelling artistic projects in Europe and abroad, collaborating with, among others Sergiu Matis (RO/DE), Cie. Morphose/Soraya Thomas (FR) and MOUVOIR/Stephanie Thiersch (DE). Since 2009 he follows different engagements with Sasha Waltz & Guests in Berlin, performing and collaborating in many projects worldwide and performing in most of their creations since then. In 2021, he was part of the original cast in the creation »In C« by Sasha Waltz. Since then, he has been involved in tutoring the transmission of »In C« to a rich variety of communities around the world: USA, Bulgaria, Netherlands, Ukraine and Venezuela, among others.
His curiosity and interest in sharing knowledge around body practices made him lead different master classes in Germany, France, Madagascar, Lithuania, and Venezuela, among others. He likes to challenge his collaborators in finding specific ways of addressing emotions, body language and contact with the audience, in regards to the pulse of the time.
