In 2014, with Claudio Monteverdi’s »Orfeo«, the earliest surviving »Favola in musica«, Sasha Waltz culminated and closed the artistic chapter of the choreographic opera – a novel fusion of dance, song and music – with a return to the roots of baroque music, where it began in 2005 with her version of Henry Purcell’s baroque opera »Dido & Aeneas«. In »Orfeo«, Sasha Waltz brings together different strands from her previous creations, connecting soloists from her arrangements of contemporary pieces with actors from the world of ancient music, not only involving the choir and the soloists in the movement on stage, but also drawing the dancers into the musical performance.
