Sasha Waltz & Guests

Following her last two projects – »Kreatur« (2017) and »Exodos« (2018), which plumbed timeless, in ways archaic, levels of human existence and social interaction – in 2019, Sasha Waltz focused on life in the present, which is embedded within artificial structures. In »rauschen«, Sasha Waltz deals with a society which, within the sceneries of its perfect living spaces, has lost sight of the world. A scenario that George Lucas’ dystopian science fiction movie »THX 1138« almost prophetically depicted in 1967. The choreography which restricts touch and contact to an absolute minimum, addressed questions such as: What language of movement results from conditions in which mind and body are inextricably entwined with technology? What is the horizon of a globally networked life that has simultaneously forgotten the world? The semicircular stage area can thus be understood as a call to interrogate and explore anew our own inner panoramas. The piece with 12 dancers drifts into a revelatory process, in which the piece’s visual and dance-oriented languages are seized and transformed by a subversive power.
