BACH CELLO DANCE at Romaeuropa Festival

On invitation by the Romaeuropa Festival, two outstanding artists will meet at Teatro Argentina in Rome on October 6 in an extraordinary dialogue of music and dance: Anastasia Kobekina, the most important cellist of her generation, and the internationally renowned choreographer Sasha Waltz, who enters this stage as a dancer.

Sasha Waltz & Guests and Romaeuropa – one of the most renowned international festivals for contemporary art – share a long-standing relationship. With productions such as »Impromptus«, »Dido & Aeneas«, »Travelogue I – Twenty to eight«, »Dialoge Roma 2020 – Terra sacra« – which specifically was created for the festival –, or »In C«, we have been returning to the festival as guests at regular intervals since 2008. We are delighted to present one of the most recents works »BACH CELLO DANCE«, to the Roman audience.

At the heart of this unique encounter, in the spirit of Sasha Waltz's well-known dialogue projects between music, dance and space, are Johann Sebastian Bach's cello suites – an important new recording of the six cello suites by Anastasia Kobekina has been released in 2025. The two artists explore Bach's music with cello and body in an experimental spirit. In a sensitive interplay, Anastasia Kobekina and Sasha Waltz meet live in an intimate dance that allows the emotionality of Bach's music to be experienced in a whole new way.
