Open Studio weekend in July

This July, you can look forward to a special edition of our popular Open Studio Weekend with our long-standing collaborators Jeremy Nelson and Luis A. Lara Malvacías. They will be presenting their latest piece from their series »From A to Z«, »M«, on 11 July as part of »Open Studio: Stage«. One day later they will be leading »CoinciDance« on 12 July, together with musician Max Plate. On Sunday evening, we’ll round off the weekend as usual with »Open Studio: Jam«.

On Saturday, July 11 at 7 pm, with »Open Studio: Stage #25« we will once again showcase the creative force of Berlin’s vibrant dance and performance community.

In this Special Edition, we are particularly looking forward to »M« – the latest piece by Jeremy Nelson and Luis A. Lara Malvacías from the »From A to Z« series, which will be shown at the start.

The duet »M« marks the tenth installment in Nelson and Lara Malvacías’ ongoing series »From A to Z«, with music and sound by Amsterdam-based composer, and live-performer, Ivo Bol. These highly structured improvisational duets merge dance, sound, performance, and visual installations to explore how choreography intersects with time, process, and aging.

Initiated in 2015, each duet centers on a letter of the Roman alphabet, with titles such as »Age«, »Continuum«, »Death«, »Events«, »Field«, »Ground« and »Imprint«, each framed by its own conceptual structure, and stage environment. »M« as in MEANWHILE continues this exploration, using life’s signposts to question how artistic agency evolves over time.

Afterwards, as usual performing artists from the Berlin scene will present short pieces, works-in-progress, or improvisations — solo, as a duet, or in a group — in front of a live audience.

On Sunday 12 July, from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm, Jeremy Nelson and Luis A. Lara Malvacías, together with musician Max Plate, will be leading the July edition of »CoinciDance«. They will share a variety of improvisation tools and concepts with participants (professional and experienced dancers), inviting them to put these into practice collectively during the second part of the workshop. With »CoinciDance«, we seek to develop tools that support collective decision-making when dancing in larger groups, increasing both the freedom and the complexity of the group's interactions.

»Open Studio: Jam« will conclude this weekend on sunday evening from 7 to 9pm and invites artists from Berlin and beyond, experienced or newcomers, from the creative disciplines of dance, music, visual art, drama, singing, philosophy and more. »Open Studio: Jam« is a space to meet – it provides a free environment for an inclusive creative practice, for the exchange of all different forms of artistic knowledge, for collective research and creation and the exploration of new perspectives. It is open to all movers (professionals or amateurs, musicians and artists of all

disciplines).

No registration needed, just come as you are.

For musicians: We provide basic miking, amplification, and monitoring for

acoustic instruments and vocals. Electronic instruments are welcome;

please keep setups simple and quick to install. Arrive 15 minutes before

the session for a short briefing and sound check. For specific

technical requirements, contact desantis.ton@gmail.com in advance.

As in previous editions, visual artists from all disciplines are warmly

invited to join us, find inspiration in the studio environment, and

create their work during the session.
