Film Premiere in Greece: Mystery 14 - Human Requiem in Eleusis

The film will be shown on Saturday, 27 April at Cine Eleusis and

on Sunday, 28 April at the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.

»Mystery 14 Ηuman Requiem in Eleusis« was one of the main productions of the European Capital of Culture 2023 Eleusis, and was presented at the archaeological site of Elefsina from 28 September to 1 October. The site-specific performance by the Rundfunkchor Berlin, directed by Jochen Sandig and expanded by a new choreography by Sasha Waltz on the myth of Demeter and Persephone, is a transcendental musical-creative reflection on the same existential questions posed by the legendary Eleusian Mysteries 2,500 years ago. The production is a further development of the »Human Requiem« (premiere 2012), which was specially designed for the archaeological site of Eleusis and amazed a total of 1,200 visitors over the four evenings.

The accompanying film by Stephan Talneau will be shown twice in Greece next weekend: on Saturday, 27 April at Cine Eleusis and on Sunday, 28 April at the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens. Both screenings will take place in the presence of director Jochen Sandig and filmmaker Stephan Talneau.

The ancient sanctuary of Eleusis became an open communal space during the performances, where text and body, space and sound merged into a single work of art. With 60 singers from the Rundfunkchor Berlin conducted by Gijs Leenaars, soprano Marlis Petersen, baritone Benjamin Appl, Angela Gassenhuber and Philip Mayers on piano, as well as three dancers from Sasha Waltz & Guests: Clémentine Deluy, who is currently nominated in the category »Performer Dance« for her part in Sasha Waltz's choreography »Beethoven 7« for the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST, Claudia de Serpa Soares and Virgis Puodziunas.
