Some »In C« versions were also created as joint projects by Sasha Waltz & Guests and local partners. From 27 to 29 October 2022, at the invitation of the BIG IDEA Foundation, the company performed »In C« at the RDM Submarine Wharf in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, together with the New York ensemble »Bang on a Can All-Stars«, and expanded by over 50 local, young and emerging dancers and musicians who shared the stage.


In October 2023, Sasha Waltz & Guests and the Bang on a Can All-Stars met in Rotterdam for an intensive residence, working with a large and diverse group of Rotterdam artists. In total, 30 dancers, 22 musicians and almost 20 other theatre performers and technicians collaborated on an epic version of Sasha Waltz’s choreography »In C«, inspired by and performed to the ground-breaking composition by Terry Riley. Sasha Waltz’s creation is originally conceived for 10 to 12 dancers. In

Rotterdam she worked with 30 dancers, 20 of them from the Codarts Dance School.

Bang on a Can All-Stars too took things a step further for this

performance: Rotterdam’s Young Doelen Ensemble put together a true world ensemble of 16 young musicians from the city, about half of whom play non-Western instruments. This world ensemble gave this performance of »In C« a unique colour and character, suited to the vast spaces of RDM and Sasha Waltz’s choreography.
